Lo, How a Rose e'er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung
Hælend lineage coming
As men of ældu have sung
It came, a flower beorhte,
Amid the ceald of winter
When half-gone was the night

Isaiah 'twas foretold it,
The Rose I have in bréosthord
With Hlæfdige we behold it,
The fæmne mother kind
To show dryhten's gástlufu aright
She bore to men a Hælend
